BSA FOR 1963

A LINE OF FIFTEEN top quality motorcycles are offered by BSA for 1963, including three distinct versions of the well-known Super Rocket, all finished in metallic red. The Super Rocket, equipped with a new free-flow exhaust, has an improved top end performance, and among its features are a twin-mounted speedometer/tachometer, full-race cams, oversize valves and high compression pistons.

The 650 Gold Star twin is a super sports machine which utilizes the Rocket engine, 190mm road racing front brake, ribbed racing rear brake, quick-detachable rear wheel, alloy rims, needle bearing gearbox, quick-fill gas cap and folding footrests.

Lighter for ’63, the Gold Star Spitfire scrambler comes equipped with straightthrough cross-over exhaust pipes. Magneto, generator and regulator are furnished, but no other lighting equipment.

The unit construction Royal Star twins, both 650cc and 500cc models, have all working parts completely enclosed and automatically lubricated, and feature new double-cam-ground pistons and rod-operated rear brake. The 650cc is finished in red, the 500cc in blue.

Three versions of the well-known 500cc Gold Star are available. The Clubman road racer is supplied with racing cams, carburetor, valves and springs, and a jet black finish. The Competition Model has alloy tank, centrally mounted oil tank, Catalina type brakes, no lighting equipment. The Catalina Scrambler is equipped

with scrambles cams and gearbox, modified, inlet port and carburetion, sports tires, quick-change rear sprocket and braced handlebars.

Four lightweight road models enhance the ’63 BSA line; the 250 Star, lowest priced 250, comes with sport camshaft, high compression piston, all road equipment, and is finished in blue. In supersports version, the SS-80 Sport Star has oversize inlet port and valve, large-bore carburetor, roller bearing big-end, red finish. Economy champ is the 175cc Super Bantam, which gives big gas mileage from its 8 hp engine, has full hydraulic control front and rear, blue finish.

Rounding out BSA’s line are three Starfire 250cc competition models, the Scrambler, Roadster and Trials, all finished in blue. The Scrambler’s engine is fitted with 10 to 1 piston, direct lighting, straightthrough exhaust system, and every item of scrambles equipment. The Roadster is basically the same machine, but fitted with road gearing and sport muffler, plus a quick-change rear sprocket which converts it to full scrambles trim. The Trials model has direct lighting, modified cómpression engine, trials cams, and gearbox with low, wide ratio gearing.

This comprehensive group of machines, manufactured by BSA Motorcycles Ltd. of Birmingham, England, is distributed by BSA Incorporated, Nutley, N.J. in the east, and Hap Alzina, Oakland, Calif., in the west. •
